Favorite Silk Rugs: Kashan
This beautiful silk Kashan rug was created in the city of Kashan. It has a number of beautiful colors including cherry red, tan, gold, sage green, royal blue, and dark yellow. Since this carpet is made entirely of silk it’s extremely delicate. This is an antique piece that you can’t put just anywhere in your home. It measures 8’ in length and 10’ in width and costs upwards of $3,000!
The multi-color tones are going to be a great fit for any dull or casual living room setting. The reason is because if your living room already has enough color than you will be overloading it with a silk Kashan rug like this. If the room is lacking color, lay this down and watch it balance out the room and create a comfortable contrast. Why the living room? The living room is not only a place for comfort but it’s where adults sit and lounge. For the most part, your pets and children aren’t going to be running around in the living room. The most important decision you have to make when decorating with a silk Kashan rug like this is to make sure its safe.
It’s said that silk rugs were made in Kashan as early as 1601 or the earlier part of the rain of Shah Abbas. He was the emperor of Kashan and remained until 1576.
Favorite Silk Rugs: Mashad
With loads of color and an incredibly luxurious art-silk sheen, this Mashad Silk Rug is a miraculous find. It’s constructed with a 1” flat-weave and features a special silk and wool blend. You will notice a wide range of fluorescent color including green, pink, blue, all scattered on a black foundation. The floral motifs on this Mashad Silk Rug are mesmerizing and will certainly capture the attention in any room. Lay them flat, hang them on the wall, but be sure to leave them uncovered. There is no sense in sporting a luxury silk carpet like this to have it covered up by a piece of furniture. Not to mention the delicate fibers risk damage laying underneath heavy furniture legs.
If you want a Mashad silk rug in your home it’s going to cost you. The size of the rug will heavily dictate the price but think of it as an investment. A silk rug like this is only going to appreciate with time as long as it’s properly cared for!
Favorite Silk Rugs: Kashmir
This Kashmir silk rug is the king of silk carpets. It is completely hand woven and made entirely of pure silk on a cotton backing. There are 324 knots per square inch which is well above the average of 300. The integrity of a hand-knotted carpet lies within the number of knots per square inch. A high quality is anywhere from 250-300 knots per square inch so to have 324 knots on this Kashmir silk rug screams luxurious.
The reason this silk carpet is one of our favorites, aside from the above specs, is that it’s got bright brown, gold, tan, and beige colors. These colors are marvelous and very easy to work with. You’re not going to have a tough time fitting a rug like this in with your established room décor. The colors are very cooperative and well accepted by both lighter and darker tones. You will see the design of the rug features what appears to be abstract design but surely is representation of a deeper meaning. There is a castle mixed with floral patterns throughout the surface of the rug.
Favorite Silk Rugs: Abstract
With an array of beautiful, bright colors, it’s hard to look away. A rug of this nature is going to do wonders for virtually any home. This carpet is filled with every color under the sun including bright blue, forest green, canary yellow, green, purple, ivory, and rose pink. At first glance you would swear there is something sticking out of the rug but that’s the effect that you get with such heavy artwork. The flowers look three-dimensional and run a coarse zig-zag pattern over the surface. It’s important to keep this rug out of harm’s way because it is quite elegant. There is no sense of direction with the pattern and we chose to list it here in our Favorite Silk Rugs section because although it has Oriental motifs it seems to be a more westernized theme. The common trend with silk rugs is that they are overloaded with meaning that’s only understood by the creator, this carpet seems to have a healthy message for all!
